Choosing the right acrylic sealant waterproof grade for OEM projects directly affects how long a seal holds, how well it resists moisture, and whether contractors will trust your product line. A waterproof-grade acrylic sealant is a one-component, water-based joint sealant that cures through evaporation to form a flexible, moisture-resistant seal. It bridges the gap between low-cost general caulks and high-cost polyurethane systems—offering paintability, strong adhesion, and dependable weather resistance at a price point that works for volume-driven procurement. This guide walks through waterproof grading standards, top OEM applications, material comparisons, and practical sourcing advice.
It's helpful to know what "waterproof grade" means in scientific words and how it's measured by the industry before you buy anything.
A sealant's waterproof grade tells you how well it has been tested to keep water out, prevent re-emulsification, and keep the bond strong after long-term exposure to water. Painter's glue that is used by most people is easy to wash off because it absorbs water. To stop this from happening, a waterproof-grade formula uses hydrophobic polymer modifiers, which are sometimes silane coupling agents. ASTM C834 says that an acrylic caulk that meets certain requirements must be able to keep its tight bond after being submerged in water without delaminating or breaking down.
Three standards cover waterproof performance testing the most. The ASTM C794 test checks for adhesion-in-peel after seven days of being submerged in water. To pass, the test must show more than 90% cohesive failure, which means the sealant body must tear before the bond breaks. ASTM C639 checks that the rheology is thixotropic and doesn't slump for stable vertical joints. ISO 9047 rates the ability to move, usually within ±12.5% to ±15%, which means the product can handle thermal expansion without cracking.
What should be on the specification for an acrylic sealant waterproof grade? The skin-dry time, extrusion rate, tensile strength, elongation at break, and sag resistance. One of Jiaobao's one-part RTV acrylic sealants has a skin-dry time of 0.5 hours, an extrusion rate of 163 ml/min, zero sag when standing upright, and a tensile strength of 0.64 MPa at 23°C. These are all numbers that can be measured and used to directly compare different suppliers. A datasheet that doesn't have these numbers is a big red flag right away.

The amount of waterproofing that works best depends on where and how the sealer is put in place. This is how grade selection works in real OEM settings.
Mid-grade acrylic sealants that are waterproof work well around kitchen tables, bathroom floor joints, and tile grout where water can splash but not press against the surface. The item has to be able to handle short-term wetness, small amounts of condensation, and cleaning chemicals without getting soft. One big benefit is that it can be painted, so workers can cover the sealed part with paint to match the wall color. Silicone can't do this.
This is the OEM use for waterproof-grade acrylic that is in the highest demand. The sealant goes over the joint where brick frames link to PVC, wood, or metal fenestration profiles. This keeps wind-driven rain out. It has to stick to different types of surfaces, handle changes in temperature throughout the year, and keep from turning yellow from UV light. Products that meet ASTM C834 Type OP Grade -18°C can handle the changing temperatures in most regions in North America.
Higher-grade acrylics that are waterproof can be used on cracks in the outside of walls, expansion joints in concrete, and holes between bricks and mortar. For these uses, the elongation at break needs to be higher than 200% according to ASTM D412 and the solid content needs to be higher (usually 75–85%) to keep post-cure shrinking to a minimum. All of these situations are covered by Jiaobao's formula, which makes it useful for OEM clients who need one product to serve more than one SKU category.
Buying teams can make better standard choices when they know where waterproof-grade acrylics stand in comparison to silicone and polyurethane.
Silicone is more flexible and can withstand being submerged in water for a long time, but it can't be painted, which is a big problem for renovations inside and outside. After it has dried, acrylic sealant waterproof grade can be coated with latex or emulsion. This gives contractors a finish that blends in with other surfaces. Silicone also costs a lot more per cartridge, which is important when selling a lot of them. Acrylic is the best choice for low to medium movement joints that need to be painted because it works well and doesn't cost much.
Polyurethane can be used for structural joints that move a lot and has stronger elongation, but it has a higher VOC content, takes longer to cure, and costs more, which cuts into the profit margins of volume sellers. Acrylic that is waterproof is water-based, so it has low volatile organic compounds (VOCs). It cleans up with water before it hardens, and within hours, the surface is dry enough to paint. Acrylic works well for home OEM jobs like door frames, window joints, and internal walls, and it costs a lot less.
The table below shows the main differences for OEMs when making decisions about what to buy:
| Property | Waterproof Acrylic | Silicone | Polyurethane |
|---|---|---|---|
| Paintable | Yes | No | Limited |
| VOC Level | Low | Low–Medium | Medium–High |
| Movement Capacity | ±12.5–15% | ±25–50% | ±25% |
| Water Immersion | Intermittent only | Continuous | Continuous |
| Unit Cost | Low | Medium–High | High |
To source in bulk, you need to do more than just find the lowest price per unit. These things help protect the quality of your products and the image of your store or site.
You should be able to get an ISO certificate, a full technical report, and a Safety Data Sheet (SDS) from any acrylic sealant waterproof grade provider you're interested in working with. Products coming into the US market should also show that they meet ASTM C834 standards and ideally have low-VOC approval (SCAQMD Rule 1168 or a similar). Ask for test results from a third party, not just papers from the factory. Jiaobao is ISO certified and can help with OEM/ODM paperwork that is tailored to the needs of each new market.
When it comes to online and brick-and-mortar stores that need to keep an eye on their cash flow, minimum order quantities are just as important as prices. If a seller needs at least 500 boxes, you run the risk of having too much inventory. If they can take trial orders of 50 to 100 boxes, you can see how the market responds without spending too much money. Jiaobao's production lead time is one to two weeks, which allows for quick restocking in both local and international outlets.
Retail-friendly packaging, like 300 ml hard cartridges for standard caulking guns, cuts down on returns and complaints from customers. Bad reviews on e-commerce sites are caused by cartridges that leak or are misshapen. Make sure that the company that makes the cartridges uses strong construction and secure sausage pack sealing for 600 ml formats. Jiaobao's product can be stored for 12 months, which gives sellers plenty of time to sell it all without any loss.

On paper, specs only matter if the product works the same way every time in the field. Before agreeing to volume, here's how to make sure of that.
Before your first order, ask for samples in person and put them on the surfaces your customers will actually be using, like concrete, ceramic tile, painted drywall, and aluminum frames. After 48 to 72 hours, check the bonding again. Look at how cleanly the sealant comes out of the cartridge and make sure it can hold paint without cracking. Testing in the real world finds problems with the formula that datasheets might miss.
The ASTM C794 adhesion-in-peel test after soaking in water is the most important way to make sure that a waterproof sealant is true to its name. A passing grade means the bond can withstand changes in moisture. Ask your provider if this test is done in-house or by a separate lab, and make sure you get the actual test report number, not just a claim that it was done.
Acrylic that is waterproof can handle rain, splashes, and short-term wetness. It's not made to withstand continuous submersion or hydrostatic pressure; for those uses, you need hybrid or epoxy-based systems. If you put it in a swimming pool joint or a crack in the base below grade, the link will break. Correct grade specifications keep your customers from misusing your products and keep your brand from getting complaints that aren't necessary.
Choosing the right waterproof performance level for an acrylic varnish affects how long the project lasts, how happy the contractors are, and the product's image in the long run. Acrylic sealant waterproof grade products are the most versatile and can be used in a wide range of OEM situations, from wet places inside to joints on the outside of a building's face. The practical steps that separate reliable buying from expensive mistakes are checking licenses, trying samples before placing large orders, and working with suppliers who allow for variable amounts and OEM paperwork. If you match the grade to the job and check the performance data, your line of products will work well in the field.
Standardized tests are used to figure out the waterproof grade. After seven days in water, ASTM C794 checks for adhesion-in-peel. It is proven that the bond is strong when the product keeps more than 90% of its cohesive failure. ISO 9047 measures how much movement there is (±12.5% to 15%). According to ASTM D2202, sag resistance shows that the product stays in vertical joints and doesn't move. For test reports, you should always ask for actual numbers, not just a "passes" note.
Yes, for exterior joints that aren't supporting anything, like window edges, door frames, and fixing cracks in the facade. It doesn't get yellow from the sun, rain, or changes in temperature. But it needs to be dry for 12 to 24 hours after being applied before it can be exposed to rain. It's not good for joints that stay submerged all the time or structures that move a lot.
Ask for a full technical datasheet, an SDS (Safety Data Sheet), ISO certification, third-party ASTM test results, and, if needed, low-VOC compliance certificates. Ask the supplier if they can help with OEM/ODM labeling and market-specific certification for sales into Southeast Asia or South Asia.
When a joint cracks, it usually means that it moved more than the glue could handle (±12.5–15% for acrylic). Low-grade formulations with a lot of fillers also crack more quickly because the polymers are less flexible. Before placing large orders, make sure that the supplier's product has a documented elongation at break above 200% (ASTM D412).
